British Tourism Week 2011 launches March 12

The fifth annual British Tourism Week kicks off on Saturday 12 March 2011 with simultaneous parties hosted on seaside piers, harbours and jetties around the coast and on inland rivers, canals and lakes.??

The aim of British Tourism Week is to raise local, regional, national and international awareness of the size, value and importance of Britain’s ?115 billion visitor economy.

MPs, Welsh Assembly Members, Members of the Scottish Parliament, and local councillors have all been invited to visit tourism businesses in their constituencies to better understand the importance of the tourism industry in their area. After all, jobs in tourism account for 10% or more of total jobs in over 130 constituencies of Members of Parliament.

There are many ways that hospitality businesses can get involved and show their support. Perhaps you could hold an open day for students interested in a career in hospitality and tourism? Perhaps you could invite your MP or prospective Parliamentary candidates to ?get back to the floor? and find out how your business runs and how important it is to the community? Why not promote British Tourism via your social media accounts or on your website?

For more information on how to get involved and events in your area please see the British Tourism Week 2011 Handout or visit the website at
