LowFares.comTM, the travel price comparison search site for great deals on flights, hotels, rental cars, cruises and vacation packages, released results today from its annual summer vacation travel survey. The results point to a potentially significant increase in summer vacation travel in 2013. For example, while only 70% of survey respondents took a summer travel vacation last year, an impressive 93% of the respondents are planning a summer travel vacation this year.

The survey, which was sent to over 100,000 U.S.-based subscribers from email list, revealed the following additional insights about 2013 summer vacation travel plans:

  • 21% of respondents who are planning to take a summer travel vacation this year are setting aside a larger budget for their travel plans than last year, while 52% expect to spend about the same amount.
  • 51% of respondents are planning summer vacations to U.S. destinations, while 11% are planning trips to Europe and another 11% are planning trips to the Caribbean.
  • 29% of the respondents who are not planning to take a cruise vacation this summer indicated that the recent negative news on the cruise industry had an impact on their decision not to take a cruise.
  • The desire for both vacation booking convenience and cost saving deals remains strong, with 43% of respondents indicating that they plan to purchase bundled summer vacation packages that include air and/or ground transportation plus hotel.

?The big increase in consumers planning to travel this summer on vacation is great news for the travel industry and indicates an overall improvement in consumer confidence in the economy,? said Raj Beri, General Manager of ?We have already seen a significant increase in interest in vacation package deals, especially packages to Las Vegas, Hawaii, New York and the Bahamas. While it?s clear that more consumers will be making summer travel plans and many plan to spend more money than last year, getting value for their travel dollars remains a high priority.?
