Foreign tourists spend +16.8% more in Spain in October

Tourists to Spain spent 5.476 billion euros in October, a 16.8% rise on the same month of the previous year, according to the monthly report by the industry, energy and tourism ministry. During the first ten months of the year, tourists spent 52.551 billion euros, 8.2% more than the same period in 2012.

Ministry sources say that the sharp increase in October was due both to a rise in the number of tourists (+6.9%) and one in the average amount spent per traveler (+9.3%). Per person spending stood at 1,001 euros in October.

British tourists spent more than those of any other nation: 1.174 billion euros, a 19.2% rise on the same month of 2012. The region attracting the largest amount of tourist spending was Catalonia, where visitors to the country spent 1.248 billion euros in October, equal to a 20.5% increase on the same month of the previous year.
