Travel booking with face tracking: Ebookers launches #SinnesReisen, a groundbreaking tool

Frankfurt/Main, Germany – 14 December 2017 –
It actually works: Just hold on to selected photos for a few seconds with your gaze and put together an individual travel recommendation, which can, of course, be booked immediately. German travel booking site ebookers.de now launched #SinnesReisen (https://www.ebookers.de/de/reise-blog/sense-sational/#/intro), an innovative tool in which face recognition plays a central role. Face tracking is used to observe where one’s own gaze gets stuck; in several stages, a travel offer that is as suitable as possible is to be worked out. The technology will still cause a sensation especially in tourism; for example, travel operators could use a selection of photos to appeal to consumers’ senses.

Face Tracking

„SinnesReisen imitates this kind of visual storytelling and analyses how we react to certain patterns, sounds and images. This gives us an insight into how technology influences the buying process. The findings help us to offer tailor-made trips that appeal to all our senses,” said Mark McKenna, Commercial Director at ebookers.de. And he continues: “Modern technology has revolutionized the travel industry and turns our digital world into a very personal experience for the senses.”

The online travel agency pushes forward with the new travel planning tool. Booking portals have long been concerned with deciphering the travel preferences of users and bringing individual suggestions to the screen based on the motifs that appeal to their senses. „This makes travel planning an intuitive, meaningful process,” says ebookers.de.

It remains to be seen when hotel portals will switch to this type of travel planning. For example, it would be conceivable to use photos of selected design hotels or outstanding resorts to search for the destination, i. e. not to begin with the selection of the destination first. Just Airbnb follows this path with its “Experiences” offer: the focus is on thrilling experiences, regardless of the destination.
